GARRETT PORTERFIELD
Lead Instructor
Garrett has been serving the Special Operations community for over 20 years. His extensive training experience includes a wide range of vehicle platforms, including standard and non-standard military vehicles (indigenous Toyotas and Land Rovers), GMV 1.1, MATVs/RGs, Polaris Dagors, and MRZRs. His background spans technical off-road, unimproved terrain, high-speed security driving, and Defensive Driver Training, giving him a comprehensive skill set across multiple operational environments.
During that time, Garrett has developed strong relationships with some of the best trainers in their respective fields, including tactical and high-speed driving, 4x4 mobility, motorcycle, ATV, and side-by-side instruction, firearms, rally, scenario development, and CONUS/OCONUS training support and logistics. His network also includes specialists in Defensive Driver Training, further strengthening the depth of expertise he brings to every program.
Garrett currently holds a Secret Clearance and is WPS II bio-approved for the US Department of State for all driving platforms. He is also a certified instructor with the International 4-Wheel Drive Trainers’ Association (I4WDTA).
Garrett has organized and led several off-road trips through Bolivia, Newfoundland-Labrador, Iceland, and Southern California.
DOUG HORN
Lead Instructor
Doug brings a diverse portfolio in mobility operations and training from more than 20 years of work in the Special Operations community. He retired after a 26-year career in the Army as a Command Sergeant Major (CSM) in 2024. Throughout his career, Doug gained operational experience across the Middle East, Horn of Africa, and Europe.
Committed to continuous growth, he has pursued advanced training in vehicle dynamics, unsupported movements, and high-speed loose surface driving. His instructional background includes firearms training, advanced vehicle control, tactical mobility operations, and Defensive Driver Training, reflecting his dedication to both learning and teaching in his field.
PHILIP RICHARD MCDONALD
Lead Instructor
Phil has over 35 years of experience instructing and consulting across all aspects of Military Operations and training. A highly versatile and dynamic instructor, he gained extensive operational experience during 22 years of service as a Royal Marine Commando, fifteen of those years in Commando Units, retiring as a Warrant Officer in December 2003. He then spent 11 additional years in the Middle East as a Military Contract Officer, Instructor, and Advisor to the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces.
Since relocating to the USA in September 2014, Phil has spent the last seven years traveling nationwide as an independent contractor and consultant, teaching a wide range of skills, including vehicle dynamics, mobile tactics operations, firearms, IED awareness, surveillance/surveillance detection, USAS (drones) capability, and Defensive Driver Training. His extensive background allows him to deliver highly effective Defensive Driver Training to Military and Government clients both domestically and internationally.
Phil currently holds a Secret Clearance and is WPS II bio-approved for the US Department of State.
